SLOVENIA
University of Primorska, Faculty of Education Koper (PEF)
became a full member of University of Primorska at its foundation at the beginning of 2003. PEF continues the work of the Unite of the Ljubljana University faculty of Education founded in 1974. PEF offers the university programmes Primary school teaching and mathematics and computer science, professional programme Pre-school education (full-time and part-time), and courses of early teaching of second/foreign language in the elementary school. In future, it will also carry out the one-subject programmes mathematics and Computer science, as well as the postgraduate programmes of teaching the Slovene language and computationally intensive methods and applications. Currently, there are more than 400 students enrolled at the PEF. New undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were developed with Bologna reforms and new students will be admitted in the 2006/07 academic year.
The PEF has research in various fields (humanities, natural sciences,
technology). Its teaching staff part in international projects, hold
lectures at foreign universities and are members of strategically
important national and international expert bodies. The faculty has an
established research field in educational technology, e-learning and the
impacts of ICT in education. The e-learning contents for university
education and lifelong learning are developed. In the year 2005 the
undergraduate curriculum of undergraduate study of teachers and
practitioners for e-learning which also consists of modules that can be
used for the lifelong in-service training was developed. Curriculum was
produced as an answer to the existing needs development of interoperability standards, quality standards and occupational standards that define the competences for e-learning practitioners.

University of Primorska , UPTuristica - College of Tourism Portorož
was founded in 1995 and became a member of the University of Primorska in
2003.
The private higher education institution, the College of Hotel and
Travel Administration, designed a comprehensive system for education and
professional training in the field of tourism. For this purpose and within
the frame of PHARE/TEMPUS European project the Slovene tourist economy
founded this College. The European project provided internationally
comparable unique undergraduate studies of hotel and travel administration
in Slovenia. 12 Slovene companies helped in the realization of the mission
to educate and train the personnel, and to provide them with
multidisciplinary skills, thus enabling them to develop and critically value
the role of tourism in modern-day society.
The College is located in the centre of Portorož, in the most popular
tourist community Piran. Its inviting location and an innovative studying
program attracted the first generation of students in the academic year
1995/96. In the past ten years TURISTICA provided Slovenia with the largest
scientific-research works in the area of tourism, a central library with
up-to-date scientific literature, and 600 graduate students who are as
professionals already proving their expertise in Slovene tourist economy.
Today TURISTICA offers undergraduate studies in the form of full-time and
part-time study program (in Ljubljana and Radenci), and the first
postgraduate tourism studies in Slovenia; in the academic year 2007/08 the
College will take up three new undergraduate study programs, oriented in
modern trends and tourism dynamics in Slovene and international area.
Besides executing under- and postgraduate study program, TURISTICA also
offers programs for certificate training (international diploma in air
passenger traffic IATA UFTAA, international exam CILS - Cerificazione di
Italiano come Lingua Straniera) and license training. It organizes
scientific and professional consultations, it is developing a tourist
informational-documentary center of Slovenia and is taking part in many
regional, national and international research and development projects.
TURISTICA will contribute to industry related expertise and content
development (business operations, marketing, pricing, financing,
internationalization) and invited IT professionals may contribute to
software development for the simulation model. TURISTICA is one of the main partners in this project.

Zavod Šouhostel
runs one of the recent Slovenia’s most recognisable tourism accommodation icons: Hostel Celica – Youth Hostel, Art Gallery, Former Prison. Established in 2003, Šouhostel, a non-profit foundation has already proved itself as a reliable partner - expert in youth travel and tourism as much in Slovenia as abroad.
Hostel fully booked from its opening and is professionally and innovatively run since then.
In this project Zavod Souhostel will mainly offer expertise and know-how ensuring that the business model developed is relevant to the real business life.

Slovenian Tourist Board (STB)
is a national tourist organization founded by the Government of Slovenia in 1995. STB is responsible tourist organization for planning and implementing the promotion of the country as a tourist destination abroad and in Slovenia, for stimulating the development of existing and new products on the national level, for establishing an integrated tourist information structure, and for coordinating national, regional and local tourist programs of national importance. The STB is a professional marketing institution on the national level that develops and employs all modern methods, tools, and activities for the global marketing of Slovenia’s tourist offer.
The promotion activities of the STB are PR activities, trade fairs and advertising. The research and development priorities of the STB are among others: collecting and analyzing data on tourist traffic, market trends, trends in the field of product development, up-to-date provision of useful information, research and market analysis for marketing of Slovenian tourism, regular dissemination of results and discoveries to the whole Slovenian tourist economy and other persons concerned; development of new market-interesting tourist products. The information system priorities include e.g. the development of the integrated tourist information system, ensuring quality and complete information support for decision making in tourism on the national and local level, enhancing the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the promotion of Slovenian tourist offerings, improvement of the portal www.slovenia.info with new applications and functionalities
